Speaker series re-imagined

The library will continue its speaker series on a smaller scale this year with three events to be held in the library. Space will be limited to 80. All events are free and are grant funded. Check the library’s website, follow the library on Facebook or Instagram, or sign up for newsflashes to stay up to date.

Summer Reading kickoff and Midsummer Night Festival

This year the library will be combining its Summer Reading program kickoff and Mid-Summer Night Festival into one daylong event on Monday, June 9. The festival runs all day and into the evening with programs and activities for all ages. Expect live folk music, food trucks, art and craft activities and more. The Friends of Mt. Lebanon Library will be holding a special summer book sale that day as well.  The Summer Reading Program offers fun events and reading incentives throughout the summer.

NOTEWORTHY

Support services for immigrants and refugees

Jewish Family and Community Service’s Immigrant Services and Connections [2] is holding regular hours on Monday in the library. Check the library’s online calendar for hours. The service connects immigrants to information, services and resource.

Children’s library

The children’s library always has something going on, with fun self-directed family programs, scavenger hunts and an ever-changing I-Spy tank, STEAM boxes to explore with themes like magnets, architecture and animal tracks, and a great family play area for young ones and their caretakers to play and make new friends.

A Helping Hand in Your Neighborhood

Social services coordinator Jaqui Stilson hosts sessions from 2 to 4 p.m. on  Wednesdays. Patrons are invited to stop by, no appointment necessary, for free help. Please check in at the reference desk.

Stilson offers:

Supportive mental health care

General social service referrals (connecting people to appropriate services, including jobs and housing)

Assistance in applying for online benefits (food stamps, housing, heating)
