From freshly paved roads to well-maintained parks, the impact of the Mt. Lebanon Public Works Department can be seen across the community. Crews repair sidewalks, plow snow, maintain traffic lights and Uptown light poles and plant trees in parks and along tree lawns. They also keep municipal facilities in top shape, coordinate trash and recycling collection with Mt. Lebanon’s waste hauler and work with traffic experts on transportation projects. With 24 full-time employees, including electricians, plumbers, carpenters and mechanics, the department works year-round to keep Mt. Lebanon safe, functional and looking its best.

NEW The municipality is making several improvements to its parks as part of the Parks Master Plan. All parks will receive new signage, and six parks will have new bottle filling stations. Playground surfaces at Williamsburg and Highland Terrace parks will be upgraded from wood chips to a carpeted surface, similar to the play spaces in Mt. Lebanon Park. The department is completing the final phase of renovations at Meadowcroft Park, focused on the basketball court area. The improvements are slated to be done this summer. Upgrades include new lighting, a paved surface and new hoops.

Also in the works is the installation of new accessible pedestrian signals throughout the Washington Road business district this spring, with the project to be completed mid-to-late summer. These push-button signals emit a locator tone to assist visually impaired pedestrians and provide verbal instructions indicating when it is safe to cross.
NOTEWORTHY The municipality reports total commercial and residential recycling tonnage to the county annually. Recycling numbers continue to increase, with more residents participating in electronic device recycling at municipal collection events. Mt. Lebanon residents recycled 315 tons of electronic devices in 2024 at the electronic device drop-off events. A total of 13.33 tons of household hazardous waste was collected at three events held in 2024.

NEED TO KNOW The fastest way to report a missed trash pickup, broken streetlight, woody waste pickup request or block party permit is through mylebo.mtlebanon.org [2], the community’s virtual service hub. Public works staff can process service requests over the phone during business hours, but after-hours calls will be addressed the next business day. Reporting a missed trash pickup through MyLebo immediately notifies the waste hauler’s route manager for a quicker response. To report a sewer backup, call the Public Works Department at 412-343-3403 during business hours, 8:30 to 5, or 911 after hours.
Residents can request a municipal street tree be planted in the right-of-way in front of their homes. After submitting a request, the public works forestry department evaluates the site to check for utility proximity, adequate space, and viable soil. If the location is suitable, the department provides a waiver with a list of approved tree options. Trees cost $155 each, and an invoice is sent after planting. Residents can submit requests through the MyLebo function on the municipal website.
