The weeklong, action-packed 2025 Public Safety Camp introduced Lebo kids to various emergency response skills and equipment.

Monday kicked off at the new Mt. Lebanon Fire Training Facility with camp orientation and the popular Touch-a-Truck event, where participants explored fire trucks, ambulances and police vehicles.

Tuesday moved to the pool for water rescue training, including exercises in boat rescues and throw bags (which are buoyant bags containing a rope used in water rescues). The Battle of the Barrel and everyone’s favorite guest, K9 Bear, were among the highlights.

Wednesday brought more hands-on learning at the fire training facility, including a bike rodeo and demonstrations of UPMC’s Smart Trailer and the 911 van. Kids practiced fire hose activities and learned about less-than-lethal tactics, ending with a foam party.

Thursday took the camp to the Pittsburgh International Airport, with a focus on logistics and hands-on training in a real-world setting.

The camp wrapped up Friday back at the training building, where campers learned how detectives and crime scene investigators handle evidence collection, how to do CPR, and how to handle extrications and DUI scenarios.

Special thanks to Mt. Lebanon Police Department, Fire Department and Medical Rescue Team South Authority for putting together such a thrilling experience for Mt. Lebanon campers! The Public Safety Camp is an annual event for Mt. Lebanon kids ages 9-12 — registration opens each spring at mtlebanon.org/summer-public-safety-camp [1].
