
M. Saiful Huq, Parkridge Lane, has received the President’s Volunteer Service Lifetime Achievement Award. The award was established in 2003 by President George W. Bush. Huq, director of medical physics in the Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and UPMC Hillman Cancer Center, received the award at the 2025 Global Health Catalyst Summit in Boston.
Huq’s recognition highlights his exceptional contributions to cancer care, medical physics, education, research and health equity.

Bill Powers, Ashland Avenue, will assume the role of general director of the Pittsburgh Opera in July 2026, succeeding Christopher Hahn, who is retiring after nearly two decades at the helm. Powers brings more than 30 years in artistic administration with him.
Pittsburgh Opera’s future under Powers will be shaped by several defining priorities: honoring the company’s legacy and Hahn’s vision, while expanding its reach through collaboration, youth engagement and a broader, more diverse repertoire.
