CRAM THE CRUISER Mt. Lebanon police will be collecting for the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank on Saturday, October 18, in the Mt. Lebanon High School parking lot, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Last year they filled two vehicles with about 1,500 pounds of food and other items. Most needed items are canned fruits packed in fruit juice; low sodium canned vegetables, beans and soup; canned tuna or chicken packed in water; whole grain cereal and pasta; peanut butter, paper products, household and hygiene items; diapers, wipes, granola bars, crackers and juice boxes. No baby food and no glass items.
CONNECTED CARS In response to the recently passed Paul Miller Law, which prohibits the use of handheld devices while driving, the Mt. Lebanon Police Department and Move Lebo will host a Connected Car Workshop, which will help residents get set up with either Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. The event is Sunday, October 12, in the Commissioners’ Parking Lot at Mt. Lebanon Park, from 3 to 5 p.m. The workshop will feature a brief demonstration followed by one-on-one help setting up residents’ cars to make use of these platforms’ voice controls.
THEFT PROOF Looking for a safe place to complete an online deal with someone you don’t know? Meet them in the parking lot of the public safety center, 555 Washington Road. The lot is under constant video surveillance, and if things go wrong, a 911 call will bring a quick response.
PACE YOURSELF A small fraction of drivers apparently activate their turn signal as soon as they start the car, so it’s ready when they need it. Do not take a turn signal for granted. Make sure the driver has started the turn before proceeding.
