art all around

Mt. Lebanon Sunrise Rotary’s signature event, Art in the Park, celebrates 12 years next month. Because of the ongoing high school construction, last year the event became Art in the Park-ing Lot, and the weekend of arts, crafts and more in the Academy Avenue parking lot was as
successful as its predecessors.

This year’s festival is Saturday, October 5, from 10 to 6, and Sunday, October 6, from 10 to 5. Like last year, the event will take place simultaneously with Plein Air Mt. Lebanon. Learn more about AIT-PL on its Facebook page,, or at the Rotary’s website,

help a child

CASAAttend a special meeting at the municipal building Thursday, September 12, from 6 to 7 p.m. and learn how becoming a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteer can help a foster child thrive. Mt. Lebanon Manager Steve Feller, who served as a CACASA_logoSA volunteer for several years, will attend the meeting and is happy to talk with prospective volunteers.

CASA, a national organization with a Pittsburgh chapter, works to ensure that foster children are treated with dignity and respect as they negotiate the court system. A CASA volunteer helps a child negotiate the court system and gathers information about the child’s needs for the judge.

You do not need any special experience to become a CASA volunteer, but you must pass a background check, participate in pre-service training and agree to stay with a case until it is closed.
