Summer is my favorite time to be in Mt. Lebanon, with so much to do and see. I’ve lived here for 32 years, but somehow, every time I have a “Mt. Lebanon Day,” I realize that I had forgotten just how much fun you can have in our ‘burb.
If gas and airfare prices have you down, or you just can’t get away this busy summer, we have plenty for you to do for an awesome staycation.
Last weekend, the hubs and I played golf at the Mt. Lebanon Golf Course. It’s a beautiful, sprawling, unlevel course with the potential for many challenging shots. (I swear that wasn’t me swearing. OK. Maybe it was.) They don’t call us “Mt.” Lebanon for nothing. It’s easy to make tee times online [1]. After that, we went to Hitchhiker Brewing and brought takeout over from Itamae across the street. Yes, that’s allowed and was all delicious. As it got dark, we spent the evening on our back patio.
Sunday, we went to the Mt. Lebanon pool. We went early, at 11 a.m. for adult lap swim, even though we weren’t going to swim that soon. But that’s the best chance to get a lounge chair if, like us, you are too tired to lug in your own. We both brought books and just sat there reading and talking with friends who had the same idea we did. Information on pool hours and rates is available at mtlebanon.org/swim [2].
July is a great time to take in Mt. Lebanon events, from our Community Day on July 4 at Mt. Lebanon Park to the annual Police Department Car Show Sunday, July 5, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., to the Summer Concert Series in Mt. Lebanon Park with the Delaneys, on Sunday, July 19 at 7:30 p.m., to the Final Friday Concert with 59 Watts on Washington Road, on Friday, July 31 at 6 p.m. Every single one of these events is free and perfect for the whole family. Whew. I am out of breath. Where’d I put my sunscreen?
The fun continues in August, with a Final Friday show with Fungus (August 28), a summer concert series gig with the Timothy Earl Band (August 2), and of course more opportunities for swimming and golf. Let’s not forget our new Racket Center, including pickleball, our Mt. Lebanon Public Library with tons to see and do and read and the host of Mt. Lebanon dining spots and watering holes with outdoor space. The Mt. Lebanon Partnership’s Uptown Market is every Saturday from 9 to noon through October and has tons of delicious options for your summer table.
Lots more outdoor fun will be possible with some fantastic upgrades coming soon to two local parks. See Merle Jantz’s story [3].
What is your favorite summer thing to do in Mt. Lebanon? We’d love to write about it. Let me know!
