Snakes!

Thursday, June 18, 10:30 a.m.

Meet Mr. McSlithers, the official snake of the Allegheny County Park system. Learn about him and about the snakes that live in our area.  For kids ages 5-8. Registration required, and will open on June 4. Register each child separately.  Caregivers must remain in the library during the program.

Bugs!

Friday, June 19, 1 p.m.

“The Bug Man” is visiting the library!

Learn about bugs and insects throughout Earth’s history, and their critical importance and ecological connections. Participants will have the opportunity to hold some live bugs. For kids ages 6-12. Registration required, and will open on June 8.

Financial Family Fun

Saturday, June 27, 10 a.m.

First in a four-part series. A fun and interactive financial literacy family workshop series in collaboration with WQED. Designed for children ages 5-8 with their families or caregivers, this four-part series introduces foundational money concepts through engaging, age-appropriate activities and conversations/activities you can continue at home. 

Registration required, and will open on June 15. Register for each session individually, one registration per family unit. Registrations will open at the conclusion of the previous session. A parent or caregiver must accompany the participating child for this workshop!

The science fiction book discussion group focuses on classic and award winning science fiction books.

Bloomsday

Tuesday, June 16, 7 p.m.

Bloomsday is an international celebration of the great work of fiction Ulysses, by James Joyce. The novel takes place over the course of one day, June 16, and every year on that day people all over the world gather to celebrate Joyce, read their favorite passages of the book, and hear others read. Bring your copy and share a favorite passage, or just come to hear others read and discuss!

Career Counseling

Thursdays in June, Garden Study Room 5, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

WorkAble combines the services of career counselors, regional employers and volunteers to provide seamless services in geographically diverse locations throughout Allegheny County. Funded through the United Way of Allegheny County, services include career counseling and assessment, guidance in resume and cover letter writing, job search strategies, networking, interviewing and connection to other resources to assist with barriers to employment.

Creative Citizens @ MLPL

Wednesday, June 10, 10:30 a.m.

In partnership with Creative Citizen Studios, adults with developmental disabilities (caregivers welcome) will engage with a community of teaching artists, and one another, to explore their artistic talents and creativity. No experience necessary. Workshop meets on the second Wednesday of each month. Registration required.
