PROGRAMS FOR CHILDREN
Wild About Books
Tuesdays in October, Story Room, 10 a.m.
The focus is on literacy and fun in this interactive program where kids will learn to fall in love with stories. For kids ages 4-6. Registration required. Registration opens 1 week in advance of each session.
Crafternoon
Wednesdays in October, Story Room, 4 p.m.
Let kids tap into their creative side while they explore stories and art. For kids ages 4-8. Register for each session individually. Registration required. Registration opens 1 week in advance of each session.
Book Lab
Thursday, October 9, Story Room, 6:30 p.m.
For kids in first and second grade. Read a new STEAM-themed book each month, then get together to experiment. Practice collaboration and communication skills as you work on fun challenges. Book selections will be both fiction and non-fiction.
Books will be available for checkout one month before the club meets. Registration for all book clubs occurs when the book is checked out. Stop by the children’s reference desk for your copy.

Spanish Group
Monday, October 20, Meeting Room B, 7 p.m.
For teens and adults. Spanish speakers of all levels are invited to this monthly group to practice their Spanish in an informal, fun environment. No registration required.

Teens, tweens and their parents are invited to a monthly graphic novel discussion. Each month will feature a different diverse graphic novel to discuss together.
October’s book is Five Nights at Freddy’s: Fazbear Frights Graphic Novel Collection Vol. 1.
PROGRAMS FOR ADULTS
Banned Together Screening
Tuesday, October 7, 7 p.m.
The documentary Banned Together follows three students and their adult allies as they fight to reinstate 97 books suddenly pulled from their school libraries. This film looks at book banning and curriculum censorship in the US today.
Music of the West African Kora
Friday, October 3, 11 a.m.
Sean Gaskell performs on the kora — a 21-stringed West African harp. Many songs featured on the kora preserve an 800-year history dating back to the founding of the Mande empire.
Book and a Movie
Mondays, October 6 and 13, 6:30 p.m.
Elaine Wertheim and Connie Booth discuss the book Foster by Claire Keegan on October 6, and screen and discuss its movie adaptation, The Quiet Girl, the following week. Booth is a retired English teacher who specializes in American literature.
Wertheim teaches art history and film studies.
Mt. Lebanon Genealogy Society
Monday, October 20, 1 p.m.
Melissa Marinaro presents The Italian American Program at the Heinz History Center. Learn about the Italian American experience in the region from the 1880s thru the 1960s, with an emphasis on immigration policy and its impact on Italian immigrants as well as an explanation of documents available at the Heinz History Center.
100th Anniversary of The Great Gatsby
Fridays, October 31 and November 7, 10 a.m.
Retired English teacher Connie Booth leads a two-part book discussion in honor of the 100th anniversary of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby.
Mayflower Presentation
Monday, October 27, 11 a.m.
A presenter from Plimoth Patuxet will speak about the Pilgrim experience. Plimoth Patuxet is a living history museum in Plymouth, Massachusetts, that replicates the original settlement of the Plymouth Colony established in the 17th century by the English colonists who became known as the Pilgrims.
