St. Clair Health: The Power of Primary Care

A man doctor wearing a white coat crossing his armsPrimary care is the quiet backbone of a person’s long-term health. No one knows this better than a primary care physician (PCP) like Kyle Duff, MD, FAAFP, AAHIVS, who practices with St. Clair Medical Group Internal Medicine.

“I think of primary care as the front door to the healthcare system,” he explains. “We’re the first stop for almost anything. Whether it’s a sore throat, managing a chronic condition, or just helping someone feel heard when something feels off.”

Dr. Duff emphasizes that good health starts with regular, proactive care. He says, “You don’t need to be sick to see your doctor. A lot of what we do is preventive—screenings, lifestyle counseling, vaccinations. The earlier we catch issues, the more options we have to manage or even reverse them.”

That emphasis on prevention is more than a talking point—it’s central to the way Dr. Duff practices. Whether it’s catching high blood pressure before it becomes heart disease or screening for cancer at the right time, the goal is always to stay ahead of illness. Primary care is also about understanding patients’ medical histories, lifestyles, and health goals to provide personalized care.

Dr. Duff’s passion for patient-centered care is clear, and so is his pride in the team he works alongside at St. Clair Health. He shares, “What I love about St. Clair is the level of collaboration. I can call a specialist across the system and say, ‘Hey, I have a question about this patient,’ and get support right away. That means better outcomes and better continuity of care.”

Dr. Duff also understands how valuable it is for patients to feel comfortable, respected, and included in their care. He makes it a point to create a safe space for everyone who walks into his office. “Patients need to know they’re not just another name on a chart. I want people to feel like they can ask anything, say anything, and know they’ll be met with compassion,” he says.

More than anything, he is focused on making sure his patients feel seen and supported. “Healthcare is about people,” he says. “And when you build trust with your patients, they’re more likely to take charge of their health—and that’s when real progress happens.”

Dr. Duff acknowledges that finding the right PCP can feel overwhelming, especially for those who haven’t had regular care in a while. Still, he encourages people to take that first step. “Finding a PCP doesn’t have to be intimidating. We’re here to meet you where you are. If you haven’t seen a doctor in years, that’s okay. We’ll take it from there,” he says.

Dr. Duff and his fellow PCPs at St. Clair Medical Group Internal Medicine are accepting new patients and ready to help you take control of your health—whether that means an annual check-up, help managing a condition, or just establishing care for the first time in years.
