Previous coverage

The swimming pool will remain closed  today and tonight, as today’s efforts to repair the broken motor on a circulation pump were unsuccessful.  The pump, one of two needed to circulate chlorine and keep the water safe and clean,  failed  Sunday, forcing the Recreation Department to close the pool on one of the hottest days of the summer.

A new pump is en route from Cincinnati, and Recreation Director David Donnellan is lining up a plumbing crew to do the installation this evening, hoping  all will go smoothly and swimmers can resume their summer fun tomorrow. In the meantime, Dormont Pool is accepting Mt. Lebanon permit holders until  8 p.m. Monday evening.  (Swimmers will need to show their receipt for purchase of pool permit; if you don’t have one, call the Recreations Department at 412-343-3409 before 5 pm or 412-561-4363 after 5 pm.)

Mt. Lebanon’s swimming pool is 35 years old—well beyond it’s “life expectancy,” so an occasional equipment glitch is not unusual; unfortunately such problems cannot be anticipated. Plans for a new swim center, including a new pool and bathhouse, were discussed several years ago, but elected officials  ultimately deemed a new swim center too expensive.  Since that time, the working plan has been to extend the life of the pool by making smaller, less expensive repairs and improvements as warranted.

The Recreation Department appreciates everyone’s patience.  Please be assured that the staff is making every effort to reopen the pool as soon as possible.

A LeboALERT will be sent when the pool reopens.  If you have not signed up to receive emergency and non-emergency LeboALERTs  by email, text or phone, you can do so at  https://leboalert.mtlebanon.org/ [2].  You may sign up to receive alerts in as many categories as you like and may change your selections whenever you want.
