The platform tennis courts at the Mt. Lebanon Tennis Center are brand spanking new. The courts were completely reconstructed from the ground up, including concrete piers, framing, court surfaces, screens, lighting, walkways and steps. Players will love the new playing surface, new screens and, most of all, the new LED lighting, which is much better and brighter than the old traditional lights (but is directed down, so it won’t bother nearby residents). Final cost isn’t in yet, but it should be in the neighborhood of $300,000. The Mt. Lebanon Platform Tennis Association will defray the cost with a contribution of $100,000 over 10 years.
Platform tennis is played on a court that is about 1/3 the size of a regulation tennis court. The court is enclosed with 12-foot screens, which keep the ball in play. To learn more about the rules of the game, visit the tennis center section of Mt. Lebanon’s website.
Court fees are $14 per court on weekdays and $18 per court evenings and weekends. In off-peak months, April through August, the court fee is $8.
Courts may be reserved in 90-minute increments up to eight days in advance. To reserve a court, call the Mt. Lebanon Ice Center at (412) 561-4363.
