The Baked Bean opens for business

The Baked Bean has seen an outpouring of community support since opening this winter at 380 Broadmoor Avenue, at the former site of Mojoe Coffee House. Since Mojoe’s closure in 2009, the Sunset Hills neighborhood has been without a coffee shop — until now.

Co-owners Ali Catto, Carnegie Drive, and Hannah Olsen look forward to serving parents and kids on their way to and from Howe Elementary School. They hope The Baked Bean will serve as a “third space” for people, whether they need a place to work remote, meet with friends or simply spend quality time in the community.

“We’re so excited to open the doors,” Catto said just a few days before their soft opening. She’s always dreamt of opening a bakery in Mt. Lebanon and couldn’t be happier with the location. “We’re finally giving the community what they asked for.”

Upon entering, customers will find a large display case filled with an assortment of cookies, macarons, cakes, croissants and other baked goods, plus a coffee bar and merch stand. To the right is a seating area with ample room.

The Baked Bean is neither Catto nor Olsen’s first business venture. In 2024, Catto opened BREW3D, a coffee truck that frequents Mt. Lebanon events and businesses. Olsen is the owner of the award-winning Aycho Melange Macarons, and Batches Bakehouse, a shared kitchen for professional bakers in Arlington (which is also where the baked goods from The Baked Bean are made).

Customers can expect a rotating variety of food and drink, as well as three unique signature lattes: Dirty Bird (burnt almond torte with custard cold foam), Blue Devil (vanilla and caramel) and Yinzer (strawberry Jello pretzel salad).

Catto and Olsen love a good theme and hope to host unique celebrations at The Baked Bean. The 20th anniversary of the Disney hit show Hannah Montana and the upcoming NFL draft are both on their radar.
