Somewhere between a designer and a handywoman,” is how Ali Havener describes herself. The Magnolia Place resident helps clients transform ordinary rooms into vibrant, functional spaces, while proving that beautiful design doesn’t have to come with a hefty price tag, through her business Alexandra Christman Home.
“I’ve always loved design and home,” she said, recalling how she started tinkering with her own house projects years ago. Friends took notice and asked for styling advice, then full-fledged renovations. “It was a super organic process,” she added. “The projects grew bigger and bigger.”
Havener stepped into interior and home design after 10 years in corporate marketing, and another 10 years as a stay-at-home mom to daughters Lily and Charlotte, who attend Washington Elementary (and advise Havener on design choices). She realized she didn’t want to go back to the corporate grind and instead, she leaned into what brought her joy: creating beautiful, livable spaces.
By Spring 2025, Havener had launched her own LLC with the name Alexandra Christman Home, a design business focused on maximizing small spaces and creating budget-friendly solutions. Havener takes on one or two projects at a time, ranging from schematic designs and kitchen refreshes to entire floor makeovers. Her approach is hands-on and accessible — she paints, wallpapers and even refinishes furniture herself.
“I really feel passionately that beautiful spaces don’t have to be prohibitively expensive,” explained Havener, who hopes to “keep sharing the tips and tricks I’ve developed over the years with other Mt. Lebanon homeowners.”
For example, buying repurposed furniture and décor is an excellent way to save, while still getting unique pieces to fit your taste.
Havener’s design aesthetic leans toward eclectic cottagecore with English country influences — think layered textures, cozy patterns and plenty of personality. No matter what style the client prefers, beautiful spaces don’t have to be expensive, Havener insists.
