The inspection office oversees all residential and commercial construction in Mt. Lebanon, including new builds and renovations. Inspectors issue building permits, review plans for code compliance and conduct property inspections to ensure adherence to building, grading, stormwater management, health and safety, minimum property standards, solid waste and zoning regulations outlined in the Mt. Lebanon Code.

NEW  The inspection office is launching Municity, a new permit and violation management system. The software will allow residents and contractors to apply for permits online, track their status through a personal dashboard, request inspections and file complaints.

The office also offers 30-minute consultation meetings on the first Wednesday of each month to discuss permitting or zoning concerns. Residents and contractors who need a different time can schedule a consultation as needed.

NOTEWORTHY Inspectors are participating in training and planning to take additional certification tests to meet the State Uniform Construction Code requirements. To maintain certification, they must earn an average of 15 continuing education units per certification each year. Inspectors are also preparing to study the 2021 codes, set to replace the current 2018 codes in July. Permit activity has stabilized, with 953 permits issued in 2024, signaling positive growth. This level of investment from residents and property owners helps boost community development and property values.

NEED TO KNOW Property owners are responsible for all work done on their property. The inspection office can answer questions and guide you through concerns about building codes or zoning ordinances. With extensive knowledge of codes and ordinance sections, they are ready to educate and assist residents and property owners. Mt. Lebanon enforces statewide building codes, and our certified inspectors are well equipped to help you.
