The district has seven elementary schools, two middle schools and one high school, with a combined enrollment of 5,472 students. It employs 742 permanent staff, 200 seasonal staff and operates under a nine-member school board. Dr. Melissa Friez was named superintendent of Mt. Lebanon School District in 2023. The district  continues to receive national accolades for educational excellence. Last year it was among the Best 100 Communities for Music Education. Also in 2024, U.S. News and World Report gave Mt. Lebanon High School a silver ranking, placing it in the top 4 percent of all high schools nationally. This year, the  Mt. Lebanon School District  was ranked the number two best school district in the Pittsburgh area, according to Niche’s Best School Rankings.

Mt. Lebanon’s largest employer, St. Clair Health serves quality, top-rated healthcare to southwestern Pennsylvanians. St. Clair Hospital is an independent, acute-care medical center with 329 beds, a variety of outpatient and inpatient services, and specialists in everything from pediatrics to oncology. St. Clair is the only Mayo Clinic partner hospital in the Pittsburgh region and has earned 20 consecutive ‘A’ grades from The Leapfrog Group for hospital safety.

NEW St. Clair recently announced its plan to become a teaching hospital. The EDU LAB at St. Clair will support students during their medical education and establish a groundbreaking residency program.

NOTEWORTHY St. Clair Health celebrated its 70th anniversary in 2024.

NEED TO KNOW St. Clair’s annual Summer Swing fundraiser will be Friday, July 18, at St. Clair Country Club, followed by a golf outing on Monday, July 21.

This year’s theme is Welcome Aboard, featuring coastal elements of Spain, France, Italy and Greece.  Last year’s gala raised more than $360,000 to support St. Clair Health’s transition to a teaching hospital.

Medical Rescue Team South Authority (MRTSA) provides emergency medical services to six South Hills communities: Baldwin Township, Castle Shannon, Dormont, Green Tree, Mt. Lebanon and Whitehall. MRTSA responds to an average of 10,000 service calls annually, with a minimum of one paramedic and one EMT on every ambulance. MRTSA provides public trainings on CPR, first aid and Stop the Bleed, a campaign sponsored by the American College of Surgeons. The authority also has an EMS Bike Team to respond quickly during special events and assists the City of Pittsburgh EMS during citywide events.

NEW David Terkel was appointed chief of MRTSA in 2024.

NOTEWORTHY MRTSA will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2026.

NEED TO KNOW Annual subscription costs are $60 for individuals, $80 for households and $100 for businesses. Members are only billed for half of what insurance doesn’t cover for services.
