CAREER MOVES Kate Nielsen joins Pittsburgh Life Sciences Alliance as workforce consultant

Kate Nielsen, Inglewood Drive, has been hired as an industry workforce consultant with the Pittsburgh Life Sciences Alliance (PLSA), bringing more than 15 years of experience in workforce development.

Nielsen spent most of her career with the U.S. Department of Energy, including the National Energy Technology Laboratory and the Grid Deployment Office. There, she fostered the energy workforce ecosystem and directed workforce operations internally.

“Across my career, my focus has been making sure we have the right people in the right jobs with the right skills,” she said. “What excites me about PLSA is its mission. The life sciences sector in Western Pennsylvania is burgeoning, and I’m thrilled to bring my expertise to help shape its workforce.”

At the Alliance, Nielsen connects with life sciences companies to understand their labor needs and with workforce development groups to identify training gaps and strengthen the talent pipeline.

PLSA launched in April, 2024. The organization works with high-growth biotech and healthcare technology firms to expand the sector.
