Well, that may be the password for the old speakeasies, but for the hot ticket in town this month, the password is “Outreach.”
Outreach Teen & Family Services is having its annual gala, called “A Night at the Speakeasy,” at Sienna Mercato on Tuesday, April 28 from 6 to 9 p.m. Special guest is former Pittsburgh Pirates player and broadcaster Steve Blass. The evening will include silent auctions, live auctions, signature cocktails and top-notch food.
Tickets are $100 each and are available through the Outreach office at: firstname.lastname@example.org or 412-561-5405.
And we weren’t kidding. The password really is “Outreach.”
Shen Yun Performing Arts, a classical Chinese dance and music company, will be performing at the Benedum Center at 2 and 7:30 p.m., on April 25 and at 2 p.m. on April 26. The show brings to life 5,000 years of Chinese civilization with stunning costumes, animated backdrops, and beautifully synchronized dances presenting stories from ancient China right up to today. The Shen Yun (“divine beauty” in Chinese) orchestra, a combination of classical western and Chinese instruments, plays all original music created specifically for the company’s dances. Tickets start at $54.50. For tickets, visit www.ShenYun.com, or call 1-888-974-3698, or 877-686-5366.
bags! bellinis! brunch!
All of those things will be in alignment from noon to 2 p.m., Sunday, April 12, at the Herberman Conference Center, UPMC Cancer Pavilion in Shadyside. The event is a fundraiser for Satchels of Caring, a nonprofit that provides cancer patients with hand-sewn satchels containing therapeutic and inspirational items.
Enjoy brunch and Bellinis, (which, as it turns out, is a cocktail—Prosecco and peach nectar) and browse designer handbags. A silent auction pairs the bags with event tickets, hotel stays and golf outings; bags matched with jewelry, gift cards and accessories are up for raffle; shop for new and gently used purses at set prices of $10 or $20; and Pick-a-Purse, where $20 gets you a chance for instant-winner prizes including jewelry, scarves, accessories, gift cards, spa products and much more. Tickets are $40. For tickets and more info, www.satchelsofcaring.org.
