Home for the Holidays

Since the early 1960s, Mt. Lebanon has made a deliberate effort to be more welcoming and inclusive, with a goal of ensuring a sense of belonging for everyone who lives, visits or works here. In 1966, the municipality formed the Community Relations Board, which was specifically charged with finding ways to connect with residents. When Mt. Lebanon streamlined its boards last year, that board grew into the Community Engagement Board, which took on the tasks begun decades ago.

In March, the CEB proposed adding some components to Mt. Lebanon’s holiday celebrations, including a Chanukah menorah and a Kwanzaa kinara. You’ll find these items, along with the municipal Christmas tree, in our public display starting after Thanksgiving. Our November issue, as always, will include a list of municipal and community-organized holiday events for you to enjoy.

The Community Engagement Board meets the first Wednesday of every month (unless it conflicts with a major religious or federal holiday.) Please check our website at mtlebanon.org for a list of dates. The board enjoys hearing from members of the public who have suggestions for ways to increase engagement.

We are grateful for the cultural diversity in Mt. Lebanon and we will continue to work to ensure that our community continues to be a place everyone is proud to call home.
