meet our summer interns

Danielle Deiseroth and Julia Teti’s names shouldn’t be unfamiliar to you. Danielle was our student commissioner in 2014 and Julia authored our Freshman 8 print and online series last year. They’re back and part of our staff this summer. Their first assignment was to interview each other.

Danielle Deiseroth
Danielle Deiseroth

Name: Danielle Deiseroth,
Larchmont Road

Age: 18

Year and school:
Rising Sophomore at Columbia University

Major: Chemical Engineering

Activities at school:

Alpha Chi Omega sorority, Roosevelt
Institute, Culinarian Magazine

Favorite class taken so far and why: University Writing: Gender & Sexuality, because it completely changed the way I view gender and sexuality in popular culture, literature, and every day life. It was a refreshing change from all of my other freshman engineering courses, which were huge intimidating lecture classes.

what do you hope to get out of your internship?
Strengthen my writing skills so I will be prepared to be more involved in on-campus publications when I go back to school in the fall.

What are you most looking forward to doing this summer?
Spending time with family and friends and enjoying the peace and quiet of the suburbs.

Julia Teti
Julia Teti

Name: Julia Teti, Pinetree Road

Age: 20

Year and school:
Rising Junior at Syracuse University

Major:
English and Textual Studies with a concentration in Film and Screen Studies and a minor in Women’s and Gender Studies

Activities at school:

Member of Delta Gamma Sorority, online and campus magazines, and a comedy writing troupe.

Favorite class taken so far and why: Transnational women’s and gender studies. Not only did it teach me about the roots and the ideals of women’s rights and equality from an American standpoint but it also broadened my point of view to look at other worldly interpretations of women’s rights, equality and feminism. I became so impassioned about the cause of women’s rights, not only nationally but also globally, that I decided to make it my minor in college.

what do you hope to get out of your internship?
I would like to hone my writing skills so I can become a more versatile writer.

What are you most looking forward to doing this summer?
Relaxing, traveling, and spending time with my friends and family.
