Longtime Mt. Lebanon residents Tim and Barbara Defeo have opened a private fitness studio offering personalized strength training through small-group sessions.

Located just outside Mt. Lebanon at 69 N. Wren Drive in Scott Township, B-Fit is a members-only, appointment-based training space co-owned by the husband-and-wife team.

Designed to foster confidence and community, the studio provides an alternative to traditional gyms by focusing on small, structured programs that prioritize personal attention.

Barbara Defeo, McNeilly Road, has been part of the Mt. Lebanon community for 20 years. She said her own fitness journey, which began three years ago, inspired her to pursue personal training after spending years as a stay-at-home mom and working in human resources.

“I fell in love with the process,” she said. “Not just the physical transformation, but the mental part too. I wanted to help people feel stronger and build that confidence.”

B-Fit offers semi-private and one-on-one training in a supportive, judgment-free environment. Programs include strength training for women in their 40s and 50s and  beginner-level strength classes for youth.

“The environment at B-Fit is all about support and growth,” Defeo said. “Women, especially moms, often put themselves last. They come in shy or intimidated and build confidence through movement and strength.”

While small-group sessions typically include two or three clients per trainer, each participant follows an individualized plan based on personal goals. Some seek visible progress, while others simply want to move their bodies and feel better.

Youth sessions aim to build body awareness and healthy habits. “We focus on helping them appreciate movement and how it can improve their sports performance,” Defeo said. “We make it fun and keep them engaged with games and variety.”

B-Fit also organizes Lebo Walks, a walking group for members that meets twice a week. The group tracks total mileage each month to encourage consistent movement.

Looking ahead, Defeo is developing pilot programs for individuals dealing with serious health conditions or mobility limitations. The idea was inspired by her husband’s ongoing health challenges, including cancer and kidney failure, and the impact those experiences had on her perspective.

“Just one small movement can make a big difference,” she said. “If you don’t move it, you lose it.”
