Fireplace safety There’s a chill in the air and you’re already thinking about snuggling up by the fire and enjoying a hot cup of cocoa. Before you get started, get your chimney cleaned and inspected. It could save you later.
Did you know that Mt. Lebanon Fire Department offers fireplace inspections? Visit mtlebanon.org/fireplace-inspections to fill out a form.
HOT, HOT, HOT Already thinking about turning on the heat? Don’t forget a carbon monoxide detector. They have a lifespan of five to seven years, so be sure yours is in working order. As a reminder from the Mt. Lebanon Fire Department, carbon monoxide detectors should be located near your bedroom (or wherever you sleep).
Walking your kid to school? Look both ways before crossing the street. Check traffic in both directions. And, if a driver waves you on, make sure there’s no traffic in the adjacent lane.
