In 1975, emergency medical service in Mt. Lebanon meant the police would come for you in a station wagon and transport you to St. Clair Hospital. Mt. Lebanon Police Chief David Varrelman, formerly with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, led the drive to establish a dedicated ambulance service, which eventually led to the formation of Medical Rescue Team South Authority in 1977.
