The Mt. Lebanon Recreation Department offers year-round activities to keep you moving, from a golf course and swimming pool to an ice rink, racket center and multiple parks and ballfields. Join a team or league, take a fitness or wellness class, sign up for special events, senior programs or summer camps. With more than 100 staff members, including lifeguards and instructors, the department also coordinates hundreds of volunteers to make these programs possible.

NEW The racket center will offer new adult and junior programs this summer, including cardio tennis, skill-based and technique classes, drop-in play and social events. New racket center logo apparel is now available.

The golf course will use a new all-electric mower to cut greens daily this season.

New this year is a plan to provide free training for certified lifeguards who want to progress through the ranks. Upon hiring, the municipality will pay for a supervisor’s Lifeguard Instructor and Certified Pool Operator certification. Successful pool manager candidates who lack the required certifications in certified pool operator, Allegheny County Bathing Place Manager, lifeguard instructor and pesticide applicator can take those classes, which Mt. Lebanon will pay for, with the hope that the managers will return for more swim seasons.

NOTEWORTHY The fastest-growing sport in the U.S., pickleball, is coming to the racket center later this year, with six asphalt pickleball courts replacing two tennis courts. The center will offer programming, tournaments, lessons, drop-in play and regular reservations.

The Mt. Lebanon Junior Golf Association begins Thursday, June 12, and will play every Thursday morning through August 7.

Concerts in the Park will take place from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on June 8 with country artist Frank Verra and on August 3 with a local tribute band, Bon Journey.

Advertising opportunities are available on golf course tee signs for the upcoming season. Contact the recreation department for more information.
