Faces of Lebo: Ronan Carr
For the littlest Blue Devils, starting school can be scary and unexpectedly hectic, according to Ronan Carr, alumnus of Hoover Elementary’s kindergarten class of 2024-25 and resident of Sylvandell Drive.
There are numbers to write, iPads to read on and rules to follow. Classes will cover math, English language arts, library, Lebo time and crafts.
“Sometimes you can get tired of making crafts,” he confided.
However, there are great rewards, too, like daily recess.
“You play games and have swings and a seesaw!”
He confirmed that time-honored traditions like make-believe families (even with dogs) and tag are still fan favorites.
On one exciting day, Ronan went on a field trip to the Aviary, where, he assures our readers, no one got bird poop on their heads despite a suspicious water drip that initially misled our intrepid character.
Kindergarten also supplies lots of new friends – Ronan reports making at least 13 – with whom students can share special days like Pajama Day and holiday parties.
“For Christmas, we did have like a party, and we did come out and show our costumes,” he said. “I was an elf.”
The themed activities provide ample opportunity for fun.
“I did have a pool party. That’s called Beach Day, and then you color t-shirts.” He reports that there were also bubbles, water games and chalk drawings.
With all this partying, it might be easy to forget that there are critical lessons learned along the way, so Ronan has provided future kindergarteners with the following list of dos and don’ts to help them transition to their new roles as students.
