Craft cocktails are among the most popular drinks in the greater Pittsburgh area, and several bars in Mt. Lebanon offer some of the best you can get. It’s a nice way of shaking up your drinking routine.
Smoked Peach Old Fashioned
Arthur’s Korner Pub
The drink features peach-infused bourbon, rhubarb, bitters, sugar, and is finished with a hint of peach wood smoke, garnished with an orange wedge. It offers a balance of bourbon notes, tartness from rhubarb, and sweetness from peaches. The cocktail pairs well with the pub’s Reuben egg rolls. Alex DeConciliis, the creator, was inspired by the pub’s best-seller, Arthur’s Old Fashioned, and aimed to add a creative twist with an in-house peach infusion, suitable for the transition from summer to fall.
“We kind of are very picky about how we like to make our old fashioneds,” DeConciliis said. “We thought, with playing off of something that does so well, it would be a good idea.”
Lychee Martini
Jade Grille
The Lychee Martini is made with Tito’s vodka, lychee juice, lychee fruit, simple syrup, and fresh lime juice. It’s refreshing, with a taste reminiscent of a mix between plum and dragon fruit. It has been on the menu since the restaurant opened 12 years ago and pairs well with both cooked and raw food.
“It tastes very, very refreshing, like summer,” owner Justin Liu said.
Scarlet Paloma
1930 by Atria’s
The drink features Blanco tequila, yellow chartreuse, pink peppercorn syrup, lime, grapefruit and grapefruit soda, offering a refreshing yet savory flavor. It pairs well with cauliflower tacos. Spencer Warren, who helped develop the initial menu, emphasizes the drink’s balance between trendy tequila and traditional ingredients. Warren wanted to create an ode to Clue, a murder mystery game and film in which one of the characters’ names is Miss Scarlet.
“I kind of went with Scarlet because of the color of it,” Warren said. “But then I’ve kind of gone with the whole mystery behind things, with the chartreuse, having the mystery of ingredients, and all of that aspect of it.”
Mullett Martini
Mullett’s
The drink includes olive oil, Sipsmith gin, dry vermouth, saline solution, and is garnished with a lemon peel or fancy olive. It is incredibly smooth and bright with a citrusy palette. Pork belly bites are suggested as a good food pairing. Colin and Marissa Mullett, the owners, developed the cocktail to appeal to both gin martini lovers and those who dislike them. The well-received libation is a mainstay on the menu after only four months.
“People say that it’s one of the best martinis they’ve had,” Marissa said. “People love it. It’s probably one of our top sellers.”
