Treats n Beans is preparing to open a new location this summer at 698 Washington Road, offering a menu of made-from-scratch sweets, specialty coffee drinks and trending treats. 

Mahmoud Zalloum, one of the owners of Treats n Beans, said the Uptown shop will serve as the business’s second standalone location in the Pittsburgh area.

The café concept originated in Jordan and has operated in Oakland since 2019, with a smaller satellite location on Bower Hill Road inside the King Crust Pizza.

“It’s this cozy café where you can fulfill your sweet tooth… we have delicious treats and the French waffles are personally my favorite,” said Yasmeen Zalloum, the owner’s daughter and Treats n Beans manager.

Menu highlights include French-style waffles topped with Belgian chocolate, crepes and customizable desserts, along with coffee made from imported Italian Lavazza beans. The shop also features social media-inspired “Dubai” chocolate desserts, including the Dubai Strawberry Cup, which Mahmoud said is a bestseller.

“We use high-end and high-quality ingredients,” Yasmeen said. “We make everything from scratch… the waffles, the crepes… all the batters from scratch.” 

The Uptown location was selected for its walkability and community feel. 

“You always see children walking around with families,” Yasmeen said. 

She explained that Treats n Beans prides itself on using fresh ingredients, with daily fruit deliveries and specialty ingredients such as Belgian chocolate and Italian pistachio sauce sourced from overseas. 

The café is expected to hire locally, continuing its practice of employing students and engaging with the community.
