Editors’ Pick: Children’s Theater Comes to Lebo
Saturdays January 12, February 23 and April 6
Three shows in the Citizens Bank Children’s Theater Series are travelling to Mt. Lebanon this winter! Your Alien, about a boy who befriends a stranded alien, comes to Mellon Middle School on January 12. A penguin achieves his dream of flying in Flight School on February 23 at the high school. Also at the high school is Rosie Revere, Engineer on April 6. All three shows are based on popular children’s books and focus on themes of self-respect, kindness and friendship. Tickets are $12.


Broadway Cabaret
January 10 to 12
The Mt. Lebanon High School choral department will present four fun concerts featuring songs, dances and drama from various Broadway productions. Each performance has a variety of acts, including solos, duets, small groups and full company pieces. Concerts are at 7:30 p.m. each evening with a 2 p.m. matinee on Saturday, January 12, at the High School Fine Arts Theatre. Get tickets here.

The Tempest
January 24 to February 24
Pittsburgh native and renowned actress Tamara Tunie will star as Prospero in the Pittsburgh Public Theater’s all-female production of The Tempest. Tickets start at $30.


Sunday, January 27
Put on your spinning shoes and head to the Spencer Family YMCA in Bethel Park to ride for a good cause. The event, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., will benefit Outreach Teen & Family Services and the YMCA. Cost is $50. Get tickets here.


South Hills Coin Show
Saturday and Sunday, February 2 and 3
South Hills residents of all ages—from young children who are just starting to collect coins to veteran collectors who are buying, selling or seeking an appraisal—all are welcome at the South Hills Coin Club’s 59th Anniversary Coin Show. The show at Crowne Plaza Pittsburgh South runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is free. 412-854-4022.

The Great Gatsby
February 8-10 and 14-17
F. Scott Fitzgerald’s drama comes to life as a ballet at the Benedum Center for the Performing Arts. Pittsburgh Ballet’s The Great Gatsby will transport you back to the roaring ’20s with an original Carl Davis score and choreography by Jordan Morris. Tickets start at $28.

The Mt. Lebanon Police Department will be “Freezin’ for a Reason” at the annual Pittsburgh Polar Plunge. You can support them by donating to a team, an individual officer, or you can join the team as they take the frosty plunge. All funds raised during the event go toward the Special Olympics of Pennsylvania. Support the team.
