PROGRAMS FOR CHILDREN AND FAMILIES
Kindergarten Kick Start Pre-K Skills
Thursday, January 8, 15 and 22, 1 p.m.
For kids ages 4-6 but not yet in kindergarten. A fun literacy-based class for preschoolers to practice and strengthen their kindergarten skills in a relaxed environment. Each class will have a literacy activity and will highlight one or more kindergarten readiness skill.
Registration is required for each class in the three-week program.
Storytime for 2s & 3s
Thursday, January 15, 22 and 29, all Thursdays in February, 9:30 to 10 and 10:30 to 11 a.m.
Discover delightful fingerplays, stories and songs in this participatory program created especially for 2- to 3-year-olds and their caregiver. Register for each session individually. Registration opens at 9 a.m. on the previous Thursday. One registration per family.
Youth Chess Tournament
Saturday, February 7, 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Registration required. Two divisions: Kindergarten through fourth grade, and fifth through eighth grade.
Chess Club
Wednesday, February 11 and 25, 6:30 p.m.
Learn new moves and strategies and have fun playing with other kids. All levels welcome, but players must know how chess pieces move. For kids in first through fifth grade. Registration required. Register for each session individually.
PROGRAMS FOR TEENS
Board Game Night
Tuesdays in January and February, 7 p.m.
Euro-style board games, open to teens and adults. All experience levels are welcome and games will vary every week depending on attendees’ interests. Feel free to bring your own games or just come to learn something new. Here are some examples of what may be available:
Strategy (Ticket to Ride, Carcassonne, Kingdomino, Small World, Sagrada, Azul, Barenpark, Parks, Wingspan)

PROGRAMS FOR ADULTS
ISAC Drop-In Office Hours
Monday, January 5, 12, 26, February 2, 9 and 23, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Meet with a representative from Immigrant Services and Connections (ISAC) and get help with completing benefit renewal, learning how to refill a prescription through an automated system, submitting a maintenance request to a landlord, contacting a child’s teacher, locating a healthcare provider and more. ISAC is a division of Jewish Family and Community Services.
Pennsylvania Women Work
Tuesday, January 6 and 20, 1 to 4 p.m.

Drop-in Technology Help
Thursday, January 8 and February 12, 1 p.m.
Senior Services Librarian Jane Millard will help patrons solve minor tech issues, including basic navigation for smart phones, eReaders, tablets, and computers; how to use the library’s digital resources; general internet usage and research.
The program does not cover topics such as setting up a new device, fixing a broken device or entering private information. Registration not required.
Seasons of Horror Book Club
Wednesday, January 28, 7 p.m.
Seasons of Horror is a quarterly book club that meets to read and discuss horror novels, from classics to contemporary, from the well known to the obscure. This quarter’s book is The Final Girl Support Group by Grady Hendrix. Copies of the book will be available at the library circulation desk and the Book Clubs display near the elevator.
Bhutani Films with Elaine Wertheim
Wednesday, February 18 and 25, 6:30 p.m.
On February 18, film historian Elaine Wertheim will lead a screening and discussion of the 2019 film Lunana: A Yak in the Classroom, a nominee for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film. On February 25, Wertheim explores 2002’s Travellers and Magicians, the first feature film shot entirely in Bhutan.
News and Data Literacy
Thursday, February 26, 7 p.m.
Speaker Jessica Ghilani is a communications professor at the University of Pittsburgh’s Greensburg campus. She has been published in American Journalism: A Journal of Media History and Minerva Journal of Women and War.
