Wild About Books

10 a.m., Tuesdays in July, Story Room

The focus is on literacy and fun in this interactive program for children ages 4-6. Register for each session individually. Registration opens one week in advance of each session.

Brush Strokes

2 p.m., Wednesdays in July, Story Room

A hands-on interactive introduction to art appreciation for kids 8 to 10. Study weird, wonderful works of art from throughout history, then roll up your sleeves to experiment on your own with a variety
of media.

Break a Guinness World Record

6:30 p.m., Wednesday, July 2, Story Room

For rising fourth- and fifth-graders. Read and talk about some Guinness World Records and then try to find one to break.

Growing Readers

10 a.m., Mondays in July

A nature-based storytime for ages 4 to 6 with a grownup. Stories and hands-on activities. We will be going into the courtyard weather permitting.  Register for each week separately.

Summer STEAM

4:30 p.m., Thursdays in July

Learn about circuits, coding, animal science and more. For kids entering fourth through sixth grades. Register for each session individually. Registration opens one week in advance of the program.

Board Game Night

7 p.m., Tuesdays in July and August, Learning Lab

For teens and adults. All experience levels are welcome, and games will vary every week depending on attendees’ interests. Feel free to bring your own games or just come to learn something new. Here are some examples of what may be available:

For teens and adults. Works up for discussion in July are Earth Abides by George R. Stewart, The Machine Stops by E. M. Forster and Brooklyn Project by William Tenn. August works are War of the Worlds by H. G. Wells, Starlight Express by Michael Swanwick and Tin Soldier by Angela Slatter.

Mindful Monday

10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday, August 18, Children’s Library

Feeling anxious about the first day of school? Wander throughout the Children’s Library, learn some mindfulness activities to help destress, focus, and feel positive.

Let Freedom Read Adult Summer Reading Challenge

Log your reading to earn badges and virtual tickets. Use your tickets for a chance to win cool bookish prizes. The more you read, the more you earn. Good luck! ISAC Drop-in Office Hours

9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Mondays in July and August, Garden Study Room

Meet with a representative from ISAC (Immigrant Services and Connections). Get help with completing benefit renewal, submitting a maintenance request to a landlord, contacting a child’s teacher, locating a healthcare provider and more.

Local Author Talk with Mark Macedonia

10 a.m., Friday, July 18, Meeting Room A

Local author and retired social studies teacher Mark Macedonia joins us at the library to discuss his historical fiction novels and the historical events that are featured in each. In addition, he will discuss the creative writing and publishing process, and entertain any questions from patrons.

Love is in the Air: Authors Talk About Writing Love and Romance

6:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 22, Meeting Room A

A panel of local authors will discuss the romance genre and sub-genres. How is a romance novel defined? What do ‘heat levels’ mean? How about romance as a sub-plot in other genres? Open discussion and Q&A with participants. Authors will have their books available for purchase and signing. Participating authors include: Abigail Drake, Doug Solter, Carrie DiRisio, Lainey Davis, Christina Bunner and Linda Rettstatt.
